A summer adventure at Outward Bound is the chance for young people from across the UK (and usually the world) to come together for a week or three of learning, adventure and self-discovery. After 665 long, dark days… SUMMER is back at Outward Bound.Īfter an unprecedented 22 months we’ve just welcomed young people back to our centres for a summer adventure programme. We should acknowledge and support them because if we don’t, we may be voting away our right to free speech. It has been easy to feel hopeless when faced with another article about the impact the pandemic is having on young people. The “majority” of NZ media do not publish articles that are in the best interests of ordinary New Zealanders.Īt best they are a government propaganda machine and at worst they are media organisations who will publish anything ,but the truth, that will promote the commercial interests and public persona of their company and their journalist’s.īut some new independent media organisations run by ethical journalists are committed to publishing factually correct truthful unbiased media articles that are truly in the public interests. My fellow New Zealanders I think we are smarter than this. My worry is that this historical “indoctrination” sets the scene for “Stockholm Syndrome” where the Government and the paid MSM is perceived as the single source of truth. In principle this is a fantastic idea but the Government has prescribed the "terms of reference" for this funding and you can’t have a government telling its people what is good for them?ĭuring the Covid pandemic the Government and MSM presented themselves as the “single source of truth” and the Government and MSM “cancelled” any expert scientific debate which could have saved lives and livelihoods and not divided our country. My belief ,based on the quality of MSM reporting to date ,is that for most Kiwis this would be a “Yeah right” moment?īut all of this is academic when pretty much all of New Zealand’s media is receiving government funding ranging from hundreds of thousands to millions of dollars to promote journalism that is in the best interests of the NZ public. However, one could argue that our professional journalists exhibit the highest code of journalistic integrity and set aside their personal political views in the interests of fair and balanced reporting? Noam Chomsky famously said “He who controls the media controls the minds of the public.”Ī Massey University study showed that two thirds of NZ Journalists have left wing political views and concomitantly with the elections coming up there may be a significant amount of biased reporting in favour of the labour Government. We’ve had really constructive discussions with key government and business leaders about the challenges and opportunities and how Zespri can be a stronger partner in the EU as we look to grow there in a healthy and sustainable way and provide more value to over 4000 growers and the communities they support in New Zealand and Europe. That’s been the focus of our discussions in Brussels at the EU Commission this week – the EU is home to some of Zespri’s largest markets and largest production base outside New Zealand. Growers are facing significant cost increases and regulatory changes covering everything from what they put into thier orchards, to access to water, to how it is packaged…The goals are right – we need to grow in a way which is good for people, communities and the environment.īut to do better we also need to ensure growers can earn enough to invest and are able to partner with government to develop new solutions to new ways of growing to feed people in a positive way. Growing healthy produce is challenging and doing it in a way which creates long term, sustainable value for growers is even harder and that’s now the case more than ever.
